    We’re Famous!

    I have to say that I think it’s pretty cool that pictures of my buddy Tomek and I are all over the new InnerSpace Systems website! We both took the class from Leon in March, and a bunch of the photos that they took of us in the pool showed up on the official ISC [...]

    Perl Lesson #1

    Fun with variables:
    Create a new variable with text in it and print it out.
    PLAIN TEXT
    PERL:

    #!/usr/bin/per

    $textvar = "Some Text";

    print $textvar;

    Create a new variable with a number in it and print it out.
    PLAIN TEXT
    PERL:

    #!/usr/bin/perl

    $numbervar = 1;

    print $numbervar;

    Create and increment a text variable. This will increment the letter in the variable by one alphabetical letter. For [...]

    Olympus C7000 Housing

    Not that I needed any more reasons to love my Olympus C7000 but I have to say that I was pretty psyched when I realized that I could get this housing for it that is rated to 200 feet. Normally, when a person goes looking for a camera housing, he goes to backscatter or light [...]

    Amanda Congdon & BisonBoom???

    Amanda Congdon has been pretty secretive about what she planning for her post RocketBoom future, but this little tidbit that I found on this site might shed a little light on the situation. Apparently the guy who asked him to draw up the logo is not really talking, but he is one of the big [...]

    Nice Clients > Nasty Clients

    It occurs to me that when you work in IT, you can easily tell how how nice the person you are working with is by the extent to which he is pleasant to you when things are not going well.
    All too often people act as nice as can be when they want something, but as [...]

    Violin Craftsmanship Institute – Year 4

    This marks my fourth year at the Violin Craftsmanship Institute. Last year, I spent most of my two weeks refining the corners on my violin, so it really didn't feel like I had made much progress. This year was different. I was able to complete the purfling, get the arching on both plates done, and [...]

    My PC is on Fire

    Chris Abraham gave me some link love the other day, which is how I found his blog, and finally this animated music video about the woes of PC ownership and support. Thanks Chris!

    The video is amusing, but the most important thing to me is that it was created with Blender, a 3D animation suite that [...]

    Perl Lesson #2

    In this little script, we take the Apache access_log file, and read it into an array. Each element of the array is split on the space (" "), and we print out the first element, which is the IP address of the machine connecting to our website.
    Here is the format for the log file:

    69.47.145.197 - [...]
